One of the only 3 most famous original drawings (fuseau & nankin), 51x31,7cm., outside the Wien Collection quoted in S.D.M.Klinger Erotische Kunst in Europa 1500-1935, as "Hery Lemort", pseudonymous of the Brazilian artist known as the illustrator of the special Vandamme’s Editon of H.G.Wells "La Guerre des Mondes", Bruxelles, 1906. Reprint on various Brazilian Art Catalogues from 1972 to 1990.

Ed.2 vols., 26,5x18cm: vol.I, iv, +316p., +fronts , +15 plates "hors texte"; vol.II, ii, +300p., +fronts, +15 plates "hors texte"..Library stamp: "J.Issakoff, Libraire-Editeur, Commissionnaire Officiel de toutes les Bibliotèques des Regiments de la Garde Imperiale. Saint-Petersbourg". Very handsome 19th century original polychromed binding, gilt letters on cover. Occasional very minor foxing or dust- soiling, light rubbing , but a near fine, large, crisp set. Gilt edges The plates are of particular interest, they are printed on sheets with elaborate and delicate stencil-cut lace pattern frames and borders. Réfutation de l'ouvrage de Machiavel, dans lequel Gentillet, protestant modéré, affirme que la source de la richesse d'un État vient de sa forte population. L'édition originale latine, "Commentariorum de Regno... libri tres", 1571 fut réimprimée en 1647, sous un nouveau titre "De regno adversus Machiavelum libri III". Large woodcut printer’s vignette on 2 titles. 1st vol. 28,+ 283; 2nd.vol. 212 pp. One of the earliest editions of the works of this Jesuit missionary. Containing the famous history of the Indies & letters and life of Ignatius de Loyola. The 2nd part of the present Venice-edition, containing the letters and the Life of the Ignacio de Loyola, is dated 1588. This work is a classic on the subject of the East & West-Indies including Brazil. Very good copy of a rare work. Folio. 3 full-page woodcuts and more than 1,000 woodcuts of plants, herbs, animals, birds, fishes, minerals and stones. 1st Venice edition of the very rare Latin Hortus. The Ortus Sanitatis is the third and most extensive of the fundamental botanical compilations of herbals. A good to very good copy in old hard cover. Some occasional light stains here and there, expert restoration on margin of six leaves at the end of the volume. 362/368 leaves; lacking final quire ff. This is the valuable 1st. edition. Original german binding in "pappband". Pages 273 / 291 with some foxing & stains. Some little marks of use on binding, but still a  very good copy. B. de Moraes vol II p.780. "Schlichthorst was made a lieutenant in the Second Grenadier Battalion of the Brazilian army. He returned to Europe in 1827. No other book about German mercenary in the service of the Emperor D.Pedro I is as well written".

Gérardin engraved on wood by members of the "Société Royal". 8 vo, full pale lavender crushed French levant morocco; doublures and end leaves of beautiful brocaded silk of a delicatede Paisley pattern, wide levant borders with delicate floral inlays and gilt fleurons, uncut, by Lucien Magnin. In a chamois-lined, part morocco slip case with boards matching the fly-leaves of the volume. A sumptous publication printed on satin an bound in a handsome modern French binding. With an autograph sonnet by Verlaine inserted. An unusual publication printed on rich ivory satin throughout, one of 10 copies de grand luxe sur satin of an edition of 250 copies, listed on the limitation page. With an original pen-and-ink illustration by the artist, touched up in watercolor, and further embellished with a set of duplicate illustrations on China paper, each signed in Inserted is an autograph manuscript sonnet signed by Paul Verlaine , and addressed to "Mademoiselle Dreyfus Dolria (?)". Comprising fourteen line in French begining. / "Mademoiselle Adele / Vous êtes um modèle... / With the terminating complet reading / "Presque le drapeau rouge Oú on voit sur vottre bouche..". Recorbet and Edward H. Roselle bookplates. 7/10 Satin copy & manuscript signed by autor.
